The Rutabaga Queen represents the Kinetic Grand Championship for one calendar year after selection. She/He/It supports the racers and the public in their compliance with Rules One and Ten, which mandate fun at all times. She is available for Kinetic events and fundraisers, media interviews, greetings of dignitaries and such other duties that shall arise during the reign.
Since the Rutabaga Queen represents the Kinetic Grand Championship, it is important that she conduct herself and that her presence be appropriate for a family audience at all times along the course of the race and during the Rutabaga Queen Balls. Queens, being Queens, party hearty in adult venues and no effort is hereby made to regulate their private lives, only the times when the royal crown sits atop the royal head and the adoring crowd is watching.
The Queen
shall be actively present at the official Start of the Kinetic Grand Championship
two hours before the starting time. The Queen also greets the adoring public
at various points along the race to be determined by the Kinetic Organizing
Committee.Traditionally these points include:
- Arcata Plaza, Deadman's Drop and Eureka Finish line on Day one;
- the F-Street Dock, the southern Eureka cheering position, the top of Table Bluff Hill and Crab Park on Day two; and
- the Finish Line and the Awards Ceremony in Ferndale on Day three.
As the last act of her glorious reign, the Queen has the honor of organizing the next year's Rutabaga Ball with the assistance of the Kinetic Universe Board and crowning the incoming Rutabaga Queen.
If the selected Queen cannot fulfill these duties, the first runner up Princess as designated at the Rutabaga Ball shall be crowned Queen. What becomes of a dethroned Queen's crown will be decided by the other Queens.
There is no restriction on Queens or Royalty racing other than that they must at all times fulfill their duties first and therefore are not permitted to ACE during their reign.
Every Rutabaga Queen is a Queen For Life. As such, a Rutabaga Queen is expected to be an active and enthusiastic participant in Kinetics year round, and she is encouraged to travel during her reign, spreading Humboldt Grand Championship Glory at other Kinetic races and events.
Queens have the right to help choose the next Queen. The Queen is selected by a private panel who answer not to rhyme or reason, only to choosing the very best Queen.
